The idea of a multi-genre inquiry project begins with an essential question. This question will be specific enough to be applied to the text, while being broad enough to be applied across a number of texts and the human condition as a whole. Rather than responding to this question in a traditional medium such as a research paper or presentation, more creative mediums are required. For instance, poems, paintings, songs, and infographic are methods by which students look to answer the central question from a number of angles.
The method was first developed by Tom Romano and is discussed further on his website.
My project will be looking at the concept of a legacy--specifically what is remembered about an individual or event after it is gone. The focal text which we look to center the question around is the drama Fences by August Wilson.
